Create Portable Windows Live Writer

I personally love Windows Live Writer as blogging tool and I think it’s the best desktop blogging tool around us. In fact I don’t know any other free but yet high quality professional blogging tool other than Windows Live Writer. The good thing is, someone can use it to learn basic HTML too.

Anyway, the only problem I face often is, I need to install it in every PC where I want to use that until I found a portable option today. I often need Windows Live Writer for those article which ask table as it give me easiest way to manage those, so having a portable Windows Live Writer is always a best option. You can use it in cyber cafe, can use it in a PC where you don’t have an administrative permission and may be you know another way to use a portable app. The opportunity is endless.

So, how to get a portable version of Windows Live Writer:

1. Download Windows Live Writer Portable Version 3 and extract it in your USB drive[need a free extracting tool, use 7zip]

2. Install Windows Live Writer in you PC if you don’t have it yet.[download live writer]

3. Copy all files from under “C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Writer” to “WindowsLiveWriterPortable\App\WindowsLiveWriter“.

Now whenever you want to run live writer from USB, run WindowsLiveWriterPortable.exe located on USB and it then will take care of the necessary registry settings and document paths and let you run Windows Live Writer in a portable environment.

The only issue is, the system must have .Net framework (Ver 3.0) installed where you want to use Windows Live Writer Portable.

The system is successfully tested on Windows XP, Windows VISTA and Windows 7 environment.

Install Windows Live Writer

Live Writer is a power blogging tool which helps in offline blogging. If you are a regular blogger then you might have used the ScribeFire Firefox addon. But Windows Live Writer is not just an addon its a full fledged blogging platform with many blog rich features. The features are fully in synch with the Wordpress platform.

Installation Steps

• For installation of Live Writer make sure you have the following system requirements. More important that it requires a .Net Framework.
  
• Download the Live Tools Installer. This installer is not the Live Writer Installer. Instead it is general purpose installer and lets you select more products to install if needed.
  
• Start the installation from WLsetup.exe
  
• Accept the agreement policy.
  
• Uncheck all the check boxes. They are optional utilities.
  
• The installer then downloads the Live Writer installation. Please be patient as it takes quite a lot of time if you have slow connection.
  
• You don’t have to do check anything. The installation would immediately after the download is complete.
  
• Follow the further steps which include putting the login credentials, blog URL.
  
• Allow the installation to detect the blog layout settings and post a temporary post to verify. It won’t affect your blog since no test post is published.
  
• Start the Writer and blast away with your writing. Enjoy!

Live Writer makes you feel as if you are working in the Wordpress environment itself. Blogging with it will surely enthral you. Try it out and you will see the difference for yourself.

Bilbo / Blogilo: Best Blogging Applications for Linux

For those of you who have used Windows Live Writer (WLW), certainly you know how good a blog editing applications in Windows. Although its features are plentiful, but the application can be obtained free of charge. In addition, WLW also not overload the system, so it is suitable for use as an offline blog editing applications on netbooks.
I've been looking for the equivalent of WLW-based system Linux. Since the year 2007, I've tried GnomeBlog, BloGTK, and Drivel on Ubuntu, but none of the blog editing applications that satisfy me. Generally Gnome-based applications that have not developed anymore so it does not support the various features and blog platforms that exist today.
I try to search KDE-based blog editor application. As a result, I found an application called Bilbo (now known as Blogilo). What are its features?

• Preview with the theme of which is owned blog
•  Supports Blogger 1.0, MetaWeblog, MovableType (WordPress), and Google's GData API (Blogger.com)

• Storage locally for editing posts without an internet connection (offline)
• Automatic saving with certain intervals to avoid losing data in case things do not want

In my opinion, Bilbo / Blogilo features a very full (perhaps even more complete than WLW). To be sure, I am very satisfied with the features owned by Bilbo / Blogilo and not burden the server. In addition, it seems that the application is also still actively developed, so maybe its features will be added in the future. Yes, I have no doubt refer to it as one of the best applications found on Linux and the best for a blog editor application category. Salute to the developers Bilbo / Blogilo!

Interested to try it? For Ubuntu users, Bilbo has been available in the repository. You can do the installation by entering the following command via terminal:

sudo apt-get install bilbo

 After that you can access it via the main menu Applications | Internet | Bilbo. For users of Linux system, please go to the official site Bilbo / Blogilo to download it.
To access your blog, go to the menu Blogs | Add Blog, and enter your blog URL address (eg: http://learntowriteblog.blogspot.com) and your account information and click the button " Auto Configure ". Bilbo / Blogilo will try to detect your blog platform and automatic configuration. Once completed, you are ready to make a first blog post with Bilbo / Blogilo. Good air-blogging-ria, Linuxer!!!
